DETROIT, Oct. 16 —The magazine Consumer Reports says that “bug-ridden redesigns” caused Toyota Motor of Japan to drop unexpectedly to third, from first, in its annual vehicle reliability rankings released on Tuesday.
Consumer Reports removed high-end versions of three Toyota models — the Camry and Lexus GS sedans and the Tundra pickup truck — from its list of recommended vehicles and said it would stop recommending new or redesigned Toyota vehicles without data showing that past years’ versions were reliable.
It is the first time since the current format of the ratings began in 1996 that a version of the Camry, which is the best-selling car in the United States, has not been recommended.
The survey, published in the magazine’s “Best %26amp; Worst New Cars 2008” issue that goes on sale in November, is the latest bump in the road for Toyota, whose sterling reputation for vehicle quality helped it surpass General Motors this year to become the world’s largest automaker. The number of

Their quality has been slipping for years. They had the oil sludge problems that were covered up for years. Transmission problems. Suspension problems. Look at their cars and tell me they didn't cut a few more corners to save a buck.
Reply:Toyota has put out several new models and unfortunatly when you do that theres going to be a few bumps in the road. Toyota is still the best bet for reliability and resale value.

toyota is number 1 in my book, and honestly,
i own both models, the tundra and the camry,
and I wouldn't trade my toyota for a gneral motors car
or a ford, or chrylser..
Reply:if you think about, it sounds worse for toyota since theyve been the best for quite some time. but when compared to other makes that are already notorious for poor reliability, it doesnt sound so bad because its already known that they suffer in reliability.
