Survey: Does it tick you off...???

that people can get handicapped spots for being overweight??

I was walking out of work yesterday and this woman was in the first parking spot that is for handicapped. I helped her get some stuff in the car she was having problems with. I asked her what type of physical limitations she had. She looked right at me, laughed and said "I'm fat". Mean while I have a friend in a wheel chair and they won't issue him a handicapped spot until he gets the license plate. Should I just gain like 300 lbs so I can park close??

Survey: Does it tick you off...???
That irritates me greatly, Niff.

My mother is hearing-impared, and has a handicapped tag. When I asked her why she never parks in the blue spots she says, "I'm going deaf, Billy. There's nothing wrong with my legs."

I try not to cast judgements on anyone, but I would be mortified if my weight got that far out of hand.
Reply:thats a good idea...lol maybe she was referring to her fattness because it has lead to other issues (leg problems etc) and she just didnt want to get into the whole story.
Reply:Yeah, I don't think that's cool. If she didn't have a license plate or a mirror hanger then she was parking illegally. They should park further away -- they NEED the exercise. Where I live you have to have proof of need. You can get a temporary mirror hanger for some conditions, but those have to be medically proven -- If her doctor got her a temporary pass for her weight alone, the doctor should be reprimanded.

My Mom is in a wheel chair and if we take her somewhere in our car and forget the mirror hanger, we don't park in the handicapped spot -- we find a place far enough out we have door room for the transfer and walk. We're healthy enough to walk, so it's the size of the spot that is the issue with us.

But hey, you're a nice person to help someone who appeared to be in need -- I'd have wanted to drop her crap on the ground after that comment.
Reply:sounds like she could use the walking and not park that close.
Reply:its like obesity is the last prejudice of our society. the last thing we can poke fun of people for. we cant use racist or sexist terms but its ok to put them down for being obese?

No, sweetie, you do not want to endanger your health by gaining a lot of weight! Do you? Do you think she is obese just so she can get a good parking space or someone to help her with her groceries? Her life expectancy and health are drastically impacted by her health not to mention what else might be wrong with her that you don't know about.

Please do not judge someone by what you see- you do not know the whole story and even if you did, you should be thankful that you do not walk in her shoes.

Have patience and be thankful for all that you have, dear girl. Hope that life gives you all that you deserve and that good health follows you throughout your days.
Reply:i would have just knocked her down and stole her stuff.

now can i get into your stuff? ;)
Reply:is it going to kill you to walk an extra 20 feet?
Reply:Hmm... I didn't realize obesity was a handicap. She oughta have to park on the last row so she can do some walking once in a while!
Reply:How do you get so many answers, I hate you (just kidding), she was probably just lying though
Reply:I never knew that...that's crazy
Reply:Don't be a fool. It's none of your business what her limitation was, therefore she had no obligation to tell you, so she told you what's obvious.
Reply:It isn't being overweight that gets someone a disabled parking pass. It most likely what contributed to the weight gain, as to why she has the parking pass.

Sometimes when you are being treated for certain conditions, the treatment can almost be as bad as the condition. For example, some patients who have breathing difficulties are put on steroids that make most everyone puff up. If you have ever seen small children that they give steroids for any of a number of various conditions, you know it is not something someone does to themselves.

What we should be more concerned about is not judging someone for how they look and loving people where they are.
Reply:Disappointing isn't it? I never park in the front, as I am more than capable of walking an extra minute or even two whole minutes extra to get to the store. I only hope that someone with a "real" need uses the special parking.
Reply:That p*sses me off so much. I think obesity should be punished, not rewarded or justified by the public. Don't get me started. I can't stand it when people that have little control over their "hand to mouth" function expect those of us that do to feel sorry for them when they can no longer move, develop diabetes and HTN (hypertension).

Oh, I better stop now.

sandy :O(

Niff, you sparked a question from me.

Reply:Let's just all be nice, now, ok? You start judging others with limited infomation and you come out looking like a big meanie! You don't always know people's whole story.
Reply:yea ... maybe they should make them do laps around the parking lot..... then they wouldn't be fat !
Reply:Yes it does...I have to drop my 82 year old mother at the door because she can't walk very much farther than those spaces. I get lippy when it is a glutton using it.
Reply:what!!??!! that is so unfair! please don't gain 300 lbs!!
Reply:i know......i mean, put the sammich down and take a walk already
Reply:Seems like they're promoting extreme obesity. But if their parking spots were all the way on the other side, we'd have dead fat people lying face down in the parking lot, then nobody would be able to park.
Reply:WOW

that makes me mad!

My grandfather passes out randomly because of a heart condition he has and they won't issue him one either...they said hes not handicapped! He freakin can't live a normal life because of his condition...

Fat people shouldn't get special treatment like that because they are lazy and don't want to walk! And those that are handicapped shouldn't have to suffer because obese people are setting limits on things basically!
Reply:well that is probably the reason why she is fat

not enough exercise ... god them people annoy me
Reply:wtf? they should make fat people park far away so they get at least some exercise!

oh c'mon who's giving us all thumbs down!?

it's probably FAT people.
Reply:It does bother me alot!! I really detest going to a store and watching older people struggle with their carts and items through the snow and horrid weather while others (whether they even have the permits or not) are parked in the spots.) Yes, the majority of what I see around where I live are obese people that go inside and use welfare checks to purchase items. NOW before some people have a fit...yes some people need the help, but when your carts (2 at least) are full of soda, chips, donuts, cheesecakes, frozen pizza, other junk food...you deserve to be cut off of welfare and every other assistance until YOU change your self for the better. It's bull that 9/10's of them weigh so much, and then think we are going to feel sorry for them! Not me! I've seen elderly people fall, helped them up and on their way, and I've noticed some "people" in too much of a rush to get to a handicapped spot, or to get the last cheese cake on the shelf to give a damn as well.
Reply:They shouldn't get one for being overweight, but should if they have leg problems from the weight. The system is not well policed.
Reply:Why would you worry about that?

Who cares!!
Reply:that would make me mad to
Reply:Maybe she has a thyroid problem.
Reply:Whooaaaaa Girl!

There's no need to go crazy here Niff!!!

:o)
Reply:theres reasons why some people are fat, some dont choose to be that way. they have other conditions that limit them to exercise, and other things like diabetes. its not some peoples fault they are the way they are. so no it doesnt bother me that some people are fat and have to park closer. its the skinny people that feel the need to make fun and think they need special abilities that agervate me.
Reply:I broke my foot once and was on crutches and started parking on them and was just ready for someone to say something to me about it! I think they have too many of them anyway.

Bad thing is my grandmother can't hardly walk good anymore and she is to proud to get a handicap sticker. She needs it too!
